How sophisticated the gaze movement analysis at the time of using a tablet computer with this equipment is explained using above figure. When using a tablet computer in a train etc., for a motion of the head by the shake of a train and the shake of the body, the view picture attached to the eye movement measuring device moves greatly, as shown in the same figure (a), and the picture of a tablet computer moves to right, left, up, and down. Therefore, image of the tablet computer taken by a view camera sometimes disappears by coming out of the photography range of a view picture. However, since head movement and a motion of a hand are changed into an eye movement considerable quantity with this equipment, it not only can evaluate the contribution to a motion of the gaze of head movement and a motion of a hand, but since gaze movement can be directly superimposed in the output picture of a tablet computer, the picture of a tablet computer does not move but analysis becomes very easy.
Left figure shows a system configuration of a measuring device. To measure eye movement, the corneal reflex system of the eye mark recorder (EMR-8B or EMR-9) of Nac Image Technology Inc. is used. To measure head and hand movement, the magnetometer of Patriot which can measure 6DOF motion of Polhemus Inc. is used.
With our new system, we converted head and hand movements into eye movements.

A System for Measuring Gaze Movement and Hand Movement Simultaneously for Hand-Held Devices

 As equipment for evaluating a motion of the gaze at the time of operation of a personal digital assistant, the equipment which measures a motion of people's gaze comprehensively was developed. Since not only eye movement but head movement was included in the motion of people's gaze, it was considered as the gaze measuring device which considered head movement, and the measuring device of motion of a hand with a personal digital assistant was also developed. In order to measure the accuracy of this measuring device, the experiment which measures a motion of the gaze which unified head movement and eye movement was conducted. As a result, less than about 10% of accuracy was able to be acquired in the range of horizontally 120 degrees of views and that of perpendicularly 90 degrees of views. Moreover, accuracy measurement about a motion of a hand was also performed and the motion of a hand changed into the angle equivalent to gaze movement was able to be detected in about 20% of accuracy for 5 degrees' and 10 degrees' hand movements. Furthermore, about the motion of a hand, when it was made to move to the front, the result changed into the angle equivalent to gaze movement by converting the distance of a terminal and eyes was obtained.We would like to examine the display style of the personal digital assistant which is legible and is easy to treat in measuring and analyzing a motion of gaze using the equipment developed this time when actually operating the personal digital assistant as a future view.
